What does music at Wicklewood look like?

     

 

Mr Bewes joins us every Wednesday as our Music specialist working with children all across the school. You might hear him drumming with Key Stage 1, composing tunes using music technology with Key Stage 2, or singing with the children in our weekly school music assembly! Children will have the opportunity to explore a variety of instruments and musical styles in his lessons throughout their time at Wicklewood.

 

Key Stage 1 Music:

Year 2 - After listening to the piece Orawa by Polish composer Wojciech Kilar, the children in Swift thought about all the things they might see walking along the river that inspired the music. They drew pictures of towering castles and mountains, along with tiny flowers and people walking their dogs.

They then used their pictures to create rhythmic chants following the structure of the piece, like the one seen below about "blue flowing river water."

 

Key Stage 2 Music:

Year 4 - The children in Lapwing had a chance to compose their own fanfares inspired by Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. Using GarageBand tech on the iPads, their fanfares combined percussive effects and simple melodies based on the idea of flying.
