Definition of Safeguarding

In relation to children and young people, safeguarding and promoting their welfare is defined in ‘working together to safeguard children’ as:

· Promoting children from maltreatment

· Preventing impairment of children’s health or development

· Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care

· Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Operation Encompass

At Wicklewood Primary School & Nursery we are working in partnership with Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Children’s Services to identify and provide appropriate support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their household; this scheme is called Operation Encompass. In order to achieve this, Norfolk Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub will share police information of all domestic incidents where one of our pupils has been present with the Designated Safeguarding Lead(s). On receipt of any information, the Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide on the appropriate support the child requires, this could be silent or overt. All information sharing and resulting actions will be undertaken in accordance with the ‘Norfolk Joint Agency Protocol for Domestic Abuse – Notifications to Schools’. We will record this information and store this information in accordance with the record keeping procedures outlined in this policy.

Policy

During any school closure please be assured that the school has a Designated Safeguarding Lead on site every day. There will also be Leads working remotely supporting children and families.

All staff have completed their safeguarding training in September 2025.

As new staff join the school, they complete their safeguarding training prior to working on site.

Leaders and managers have put in place effective child protection and staff behaviour policies that are well understood by everyone in the setting.
