Spellings
By the end of Year 4, we would like your child to know how to spell all the words below, understand what they mean, and be able to use them correctly in context.

Times Tables
By January, we would like your child to confidently recall their times-table facts so that they can apply them accurately in lessons and be well prepared for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), which takes place in June. Below are useful websites to aid this.

English
In English, we have been learning how to create strong sentences for our warning stories by using expanded noun phrases, fronted adverbials, inverted commas for dialogue, actions that show feelings (‘show, not tell’), powerful verbs and similes.

Actions that show feelings (‘show, not tell’)– We can show how a character is feeling without simply telling the reader. For example, instead of saying that a character is nervous, we could write, ‘His palms were sweaty’ or ‘Her hands trembled as she reached for the door handle.’
Powerful verbs – We can choose more precise and interesting verbs to show how a character moves or behaves. For example, instead of using the word ‘walked’, we could use ‘crept’ if the character was frightened, or ‘stormed’ if the character was angry.
