We are currently reading stories about Place and Belonging related books in Jay Class. 

 

Our model text in Summer 1 is Handa's Surprise. We will be learning to retell the story using a story map and actions as a whole class. We will be examining lots of different aspects of the text. 

Once upon a time, there was a kind girl called Handa who decided to put 4 delicious fruits in a basket and give them to her friend Akeyo.

Will she be surprised? Thought Handa as she set off for Akeyo’s village. I wonder which fruit she will like the best?

Will she like soft yellow bananas? Thought Handa as the cheeky monkey swiped it!

Will she like round juicy oranges? Thought Handa as the zebra reached and grabbed the orange in its mouth!

Or will she like ripe mangoes? Thought Handa as the elephant reached with his trunk and swiped the mango away.

Which fruit will Akeyo like best? Thought Handa as the goat snapped the rope and ran into the tangerine tree! At that moment, all the tangerines tumbled into the basket.

Luckily, tangerines were Akeyo’s favourite fruit! Handa was relieved.
