In the academic year 2013-2014 Norfolk County Council allocated Wicklewood School £17000 pupil premium grant. The money is targeted to close the attainment gap between children from low-income and other disadvantaged families and their peers. The in-school work with pupils to close the attainment gap is supported with strategies to further engage parents in their children’s learning.
Some of the grant is spent on the provision of 1:1 counselling and nurture groups. We believe strongly that if a child’s emotional needs are met, then they will be in the right place to learn. The 1:1 counselling, led by a TA with full Child Counselling qualifications, supports children who may be dealing with short term issues such as a bereavement or longer term issues such as family break-down, poverty or illness and the lack of aspiration and self-esteem that is often linked to these situations.
The following is a detailed break-down of the way the money was spent.
