Hello Kestrels!
Well done for all the hard work last week, some lovely pieces shared with me through the Kestrel inbox, I have set up a Kestrel blog on purple mash this week. You can use the Kestrel blog to post work you want to share with your classmates or other pictures of things you have been doing during quarantine. There will also be a weekly ‘question’ posed for you to think about and reflect on and share your thoughts if you wish. To access the blog, log into purple mash then click on the sharing icon that is at the top (a green globe) then the shared blog tab and then the Kestrel blog.
Daily Tasks
Reading – I hope you are all still managing to read everyday. It would also be a good idea to practise your comprehension skills. You can access some of the comprehension texts and questions on Espresso (discovery education). Why not go on to Espresso. KS2. English. Comprehension Upper.
Read one of the texts and take the quiz to test your understanding and reading skills.
The login is: student23664 and password canary1
You could also catch up on the Espresso Key Stage Two News – it’s a good way to find out about what’s been going on, and I know you like discussing and debating current events in school so this is another great way to keep it up!
I know that a lot of you are very switched on about current events and will be aware of some of the upsetting things going on in the news at the moment. Can I suggest you take some time to visit the PSHE section to learn about discrimination, it may help you to understand some of the things that have happened. Go to KS2. PSHE. Identifying and Combatting Discrimination. On the left hand side there will be options for you to watch videos, read fact files and more.
Times Tables
Keep practising those times tables, challenge yourself to brush up on the timestables you’re not as fluent with. TT Rockstars is great but if you’re looking for something a little different you could try:

Writing – This is a lovely activity I came across. In school we’ve used this site before and entered some of their competitions such as the diversity poster competition. It’s a wonderful activity designed to connect people and build relationships.
https://plprimarystars.com/resources/connecting-generations
Grammar – I have set you another two 2Do tasks for grammar on purple mash as these worked well and were popular last week. You don’t have to hand-in or save quizzes, it automatically sends me the scores once you have completed it. They are due on Sunday 14th June.
Things to be mindful of:
- Suffixes are added to the end of a word.
- Read carefully what the question is asking you to do.
- Some words belong to more than one word class, for example ‘fast’ can be a verb or an adjective.
Physical Activity – It’s up to you what activity you do at home, but it is important to keep a routine going. Rather than setting PE for you each week, try to join in with the Joe Wicks live school workout sessions. Google PE with Joe.
If you want to try something different you could do as a family – click on this resource to find some ideas that suit you: https://www.getset4pe.co.uk/ResourceBank/ResourceCategory/1002
English and Maths
To give your child a set of fully planned and accessible tasks to do at home, we are recommending Hamilton Trust’s website and the White Rose Maths website (working alongside BBC Bitesize currently).
Don’t forget that I have put a set of links to other websites with options for Maths and English if you are finding these too challenging or not challenging enough or would just like a change. However, please let me remind you that if your child is coming into school they need to be following the English and Maths from Hamilton and White Rose at home as this is what will be followed in school and they will otherwise be lacking skills/previous work from the sequences.
