Swift Class Thu 23rd April

Thursday 23rd April 2020 Wicklewood Primary School Swift class Year 2

Hello Extraordinary Swift Class!

I wonder how many of you have still been doing our class chant and actions to get yourself in the mood for learning? Quick reminder…

Today I picked the word extraordinary….

I am extraordinary, you are extraordinary, we are extraordinary!

I hope you are all safe and well.
From Miss Harvey 😊

Read, Write, Inc.

Your child will need to practise their phonics daily.

Please access the ‘Read Write Inc Phonics Lessons at Home Page’ on YouTube at

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ/featured for a daily phonics lesson.

Parents should first watch the 3 minute ‘Parent Video: Introduction to Daily Read Write Inc. Phonics Lesson’. There are many other helpful Read Write Inc videos on this page for parents and on the Oxford Owl website.

The sound your child will need to focus on will depend on their RWI group before the school closure. Today’s phonic lessons are:

We are moving away from diary writing now and going to look at a new story ‘Baba Yaga and the Black Geese’. Baba Yaga is an unusual name isn’t it? It means grandmother or old lady witch. This is a traditional story from Europe. Just like we do at school, today I want you to answer some questions about the story and learn to ‘talk the text’. There is a text map to help you.

Can I verbally answer comprehension questions with an adult to help read the questions? Can I verbally retell the story?

Can I write answers to comprehension questions and retell the story verbally?

Can I write in depth answers to comprehension questions and retell the story verbally using drama and vocal expression?

Today we are going to try something different using Oak National Academy video lessons. Each lesson has a starter quiz, a teaching video to watch, a talking task, an independent task and a plenary quiz to see what you can remember.

We were learning about 3D shapes before school closed so today I want you to practise this area of maths using the video and resources. Click on the link and follow the on-screen instructions. When you get to the independent task I suggest you record your answers in your notepad/workbook then you can tick or fix your work!

Can I use a shape word mat to help me identify and write down the names of 3D shapes? Word mat attached

Can I identify and nae 3D shapes and some of their properties – faces, vertices?

Can I identify 3D shapes and describe all their properties – edges, vertices, and faces?

I would like you to continue to learn about online safety with Jessie and friends. We are all spending lots of time online while school is closed. If you missed lesson one before the Easter break. You can find it here and catch up https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/globalassets/thinkuknow/documents/thinkuknow/parents/pdf/thinkuknow-5-7s-home-activity-sheet-1.pdf

The lesson I would like you to do today is lesson 2 which is saved at the bottom of today’s page. You are going to think about sharing pictures online and learn a song to help you remember how to keep safe.

Here is a bi-lingual song (Spanish and English) to help you remember and revise colours in Spanish.

I know lots of you have created rainbows to display at home. I wonder if you could make a new rainbow or a different colourful picture and label all the colours in Spanish?
