A message from Miss Jell – Hi everyone! Here are some activities that you can use at home related to our lessons in Greenfinch class. I did my first P.E. with Joe Wicks on Monday morning so I hope some of you will join me tomorrow morning at 9am.
P.E. with Joe Wicks –
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz0go1pTda8 Joe will be running a daily P.E. session at 9am every day for 30 minutes. The sessions can be re-watched if you can’t join in at 9am.
Dance workshops –
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03g64pm We have used the BBC dance workshops in our lessons. Revisit ‘The Romans’ workshop or try out a new one.
Please keep reading every day! Read with a parent, read with a brother or sister, read to your pet, have some quiet time and read alone or maybe as if you can FaceTime a friend and read to each other or read the same book taking turns. Also, use the new ‘Oxford Owl’ login details to access the Oxford owl website. These details were stuck in to some children’s home learning books on Friday but they are also attached to this webpage. My suggested reader for this week is ‘The Personality Potion’ in the 7-9 year old section. It links nicely with our recent learning about spells and potions! But please explore the other books that are available to you.
Some of you were given a green diary to take home on Friday, but you could also use another book or a pieces of paper. Add a new entry to your diary every day while you are at home. Here are some guidelines for keeping a diary https://www.theschoolrun.com/diary-writing-for-children
When you have read ‘The Personality Potion’, have a go at writing instructions for your own potion, just like we did in class. Use the attached ‘Features of an Instruction text’ to help you. Remember that ‘Imperative’ verbs are ‘Bossy’ verbs!
In the ‘English’ section of Oxford Owl (see Oxford Owl Login English Login details) there are some great tips for writing at home and a lovely activity related to our learning about Performance Poetry. I have attached the activity to the website. Afterwards, try writing a poem in the same style. Have a look at the Year 3 Writing targets document that is attached to the website so you can see the things you need to keep focusing on when you write.
Spelling – Please use your home learning book to look back over all our spellings from this year. You can use https://topnotchteaching.com/lesson-ideas/35-spelling-games/ to devise your own games and sign up for a new spelling game each day for 5 days. On the ‘Oxford Owl’ login you can click on ‘Read Write Inc Spelling – Extra Practice Zone’ and access lots of spelling activities.
Times tables – Please keep practising your times tables at home every day. Little and often is the key – just 10 minutes a day! You can use your TTRockstars login but also don’t forget our favourites of https://www.topmarks.co.uk/times-tables/coconut-multiples and https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button Remember that it is very important to practise the related division facts alongside the multiplication facts to gain a deep understanding.
Statistics – https://nrich.maths.org/9304 This website provides some great activities which you can use to develop your understanding of statistics and data, which we were learning about in class. There is also a Statistics booklet attached to the website if you are able to print (with answers too!)
Try the 30 day Lego Challenge calendar https://www.freehomeschooldeals.com/free-printable-30-day-lego-challenge-instant-download/ I can’t wait for Day 20!
The world – In class we started watching the BBC series ‘How Earth Made Us’ as part of our guided reading/watching sessions. You can watch more here at https://www.dailymotion.com/search/how%20earth%20made%20us
