Virtual Sports Day

TO BE COMPLETED BY FRIDAY 19TH JUNE.

ANNOUNCED W/C 22nd JUNE!

Next week would have been our KS1 and KS2 sports days, although things are a little bit different at the moment, we did not want that to stop us… so we have changed the way that we are doing it this year!

Miss Marriott and Mrs Thacker have given you 5 races/challenges to complete:

  1. Triple speed bounce jump.
  2. Hurdles (all 5 hurdles count as 1 time through/1 point).
  3. ‘Sock’/egg and spoon race.
  4. Target throw.
  5. Dribble course.

We have made a video to show how to do each one. You can find these below.

  • Any (safe) objects can be used to do these challenges – toys or tea towels work just as well!
  • Count how many times through you can do each challenge in 30 seconds (you will need somebody to time you).
  • These challenges can be made harder by moving the obstacles further apart and increasing the distance or made easier by moving them closer together.
  • Put your family’s score (everybody is welcome to join in but please only put on 1 score per person) on the Microsoft forms link for your colour team (please check you are putting it on the right one).
  • Have fun – keep active Wicklewood!
  • If you would like to share some pictures of you completing our virtual sports day, please send them to lapwing@wicklewood.norfolk.sch.uk – we would love to see them!

Robin Class 15th June

To Master Home School, Keep It Fun and Focus on the Basics - BloombergRobin

Hello Robins.

I hope you had a nice weekend. There is a video message from me on the school website on Monday morning to start the week.

You will find this week’s Robin Class English and Maths activities below. Just to let parents know, there is a fair bit of guided writing on Thursday and Friday in English but do what you can and don’t worry if you don’t have time to finish all of this.

Parents/carers can email me at robin@wicklewood.norfolk.sch.uk with any questions, and you can send me one piece of work a week that you are proud of. All emails must be from a parent email account. I am working in school, so there may be a delay in receiving a response when I am teaching.

I will continue to provide feedback on any Purple Mash work and comment on your posts of the Purple Mash Robin Class Blog.

Shut your eyes and try and picture the word. Try and write it down imagining the picture of the word you see in your head.

English

For English this week, we will return to Miss Browne at the Oak National Academy for some fiction writing based around story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. A word mat can be found in the home learning to assist with spellings.

Miss Browne has the /ee/ /ea/ /y/ alternative sounds (phonemes) as her sound of the week. This is helpful revision and spelling practice but depending upon your child’s phonic progress they may not know all of these sounds yet.

Please ensure that you keep following Rosie on the Read Write Inc phonics lessons on YouTube outlined above for your daily phonics learning.

There are one, two or three peak challenges each day. Remember to choose something which you feel you can do but will challenge you.

Monday

Today, we will be listening to the story and then answering some questions. The video lesson can be found at https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/the-tiger-who-came-to-tea/activities/1/.

Stick puppets are available to download from home learning page, if you would like to use them when retelling the story. You need to print them (ideally on card) and then tape them to a lollipop stick or something similar.

It would be great to see any work you are proud of on the Robin Class Blog on Purple Mash.

Maths

We will continue to use White Rose Maths learning resources again this week to recap our counting in twos, five and tens (an important skill before learning these times tables in Year 2) and adding in equal groups. Friday will be a fun maths day!

There is a video lesson presentation for each day focussing on the learning. There are separate activity and answer sheets on the school website for each day.

If you have access to a printer, then please print out the activity sheet. If you cannot print this document, ask an adult to help you create a frame &/or draw pictures like the activity sheet in your home school sharing book, exercise book or notebook. Adults can help you to use the separate answer sheets to ‘tick or fix’ your work.

If your child finds these activities challenging, always spend time seeing the maths first by manipulating physical objects and then drawing pictures. This is more important than completing an activity sheet. Should you need any guidance email Mr Allard at robin@wicklewood.norfolk.sch.uk.

There are one, two or three peak challenges. Remember to choose something which you feel you can do but will challenge you.

If you are finding it hard to spell words try the following:-

1. Write the words onto cards (not too many at a time). Say the word out loud.

2. If the word can be split into its sounds, say the word in a ‘robot voice’.

3. Look at the word trace over the letters with your finger.

4. Copy the word and say the letters or sounds as you write it. Copy it again.

5. Cover the word and try and write the word saying it as you write – peep if you need to!

6. Check the word you have written matches the word on the card and say it again as you check.

7. Keep writing the word until you can write it without having to peep.

Miss Browne has the /ow/ /oa/ /o-e/ alternative sounds (phonemes) as her sound of the week. This is helpful revision and spelling practice but depending upon your child’s phonic progress they may not know all of these sounds yet.

Please ensure that you keep following the Read Write Inc phonics lessons on YouTube outlined above for your daily phonics learning.

On Tuesday, an adult will need to provide you with a blank piece of paper folded into nine boxes to create your story map.

Maths

We will use White Rose Maths learning resources again this week to investigate quarters, number bonds, fact families and finding parts.

There is a video lesson presentation for each day, some start with practising key maths skills before focussing on the new learning.

Where you see the symbol in the righthand margin of the activity sheet this indicates that you may need to use physical objects (e.g. counters, lego, dried pasta) first, to help see the maths and find the answer before recording your ideas.

It is more important that your child is secure in their understanding by manipulating physical objects than completing the activity sheet.

English

For English this week, we will be undertaking some fiction writing based on the story ‘Katie in London’, a little girl who goes on a big adventure in a big city. Miss Browne at the Oak National Academy will guide you through the learning.

The lessons and the resources can be found at

https://www.thenational.academy/online-classroom/year-1/english#subjects

Miss Brown has the /igh/ /ie/ /i-e/ alternative sounds (phonemes) as her sound of the week. This is helpful revision and spelling practice but depending upon your child’s phonic progress they may not know all of these sounds yet. Please also note that the /ie/ phoneme (as in pie) is not a sound discretely taught in the Read Write Inc programme.

Please ensure that you keep following the Read Write Inc phonics lessons on YouTube outlined above for your daily phonics learning.

Maths

We will use White Rose Maths learning resources this week to recap doubling and investigate making equal groups (grouping/sharing) and finding a half.

There is a video lesson presentation for each day which starts with practising key maths skills and then moves on to the new learning.

Important Parent Note:

In school, we adopt a Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach when learning new concepts in maths. An explanation of this approach can be found at:- https://www.theschoolrun.com/what-is-the-concrete-pictorial-abstract-approach-in-maths

It is therefore important that your child gets to use physical objects first when exploring new maths concepts. Whilst your child may be confident at doubling, when grouping, sharing or finding a half your child will need to manipulate physical objects (e.g. counters, lego, dried pasta) to help them see the maths. I would rather your child spent time being confident at this than completing the worksheet.
