Robin Class Home School

Week Commencing

Monday 6th July 2020

Hello Robins,

I hope you enjoyed writing your terrifying T-Rex information text last week and that you managed to try some circus themed learning activities. I enjoyed the plastic bag balancing circus skill!

I know that this has been a long term of learning at home and we are all missing school and our friends. There’s not long to go now before the Summer Holidays, so keep working hard for a bit longer and remember our school value of happiness.

There will be a video message from me on the school website on Monday morning to start the week.

You will find this week’s Robin Class English and Maths activities below. Do what you can, choose a peak challenge to suit you and don’t worry if you don’t have time to finish all of it.

Parents/carers can email me at robin@wicklewood.norfolk.sch.uk with any questions, and you can send me one piece of work a week that you are proud of. All emails must be from a parent email account.

I will continue to provide feedback on any Purple Mash work and comment on your posts of the Purple Mash Robin Class Blog.

Have a great week.

If your child is in Grey RWI group and needs more of a challenge, try reading Top Ten Worst Jobs in History.

Due to the limited number of Read Write Inc books available as ebooks there may be some repetition before the end of term.

Don’t forget that the Summer Reading Challenge 2020 is open, details can be found at https://summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/. This year’s theme is:-

The challenge is online with access to ebooks, activities, clubs and story times.

Your special adult helper will need to sign up and create an account for you.

Phonics

Please continue to access the ‘Read Write Inc Phonics Lessons at Home’ page on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ for the daily phonics and spelling lessons with Rosie.

I have managed to track down the revised Read Write Inc timetable so the sounds and days should now match!

These videos are on a repeat sequence between now and the end of term. Repetition is an important part of embedding phonic knowledge so please continue to follow these lessons. If you are following set 2 sounds and are feeling very confident, try set 3 sounds instead.

All lessons will be available for 24 hours from 9.30am each day.

For children in Red/Green RWI Groups, also watch the ‘Read Red Words 1’ daily film.

For children in Orange/Yellow/Blue/Grey RWI Groups, watch ‘Read longer words’ and ‘Read Red Words 2’ films.

For children in Orange RWI Group, watch Read Red Words 1 if you are not feeling confident about Read Words 2.

Optional Challenge:

For children in Red/Green RWI Groups, you can watch the ‘Read and Hold a Sentence 1’ film and complete the sentence writing activity.

For children in Orange/Yellow/Blue/Grey RWI Groups, watch ‘Read and Hold a Sentence 2’ film and complete the sentence writing activity.

All films will be in separate categories on the YouTube channel.

If you are finding it difficult to fit everything in, please focus on the Speed Sound and Spelling video lessons.

Any spellings can be completed in the home school sharing book, an exercise book or a notebook.

Spellings

Login to PurpleMash and try a Spelling Quiz challenge in your 2Dos.

When you launch the 2Do, you will be given some options about how long you will see the word for before it disappears. Give yourself longer if you are not feeling confident.

Choose your own peak challenge and remember that mistakes are part of learning. You only need to complete one spelling 2Do, but you can do more if you like.

Spelling Quiz 3 – Words spelt with special friends /air/, /are/ and /ear/ all making an air sound.

Keep a note of any words that you find difficult to spell, and try the following:-

1. Write the words onto cards (not too many at a time). Say the word out loud.

2. If the word can be split into its sounds, say the word in a ‘robot voice’.

3. Look at the word trace over the letters with your finger.

4. Copy the word and say the letters or sounds as you write it. Copy it again.

5. Cover the word and try and write the word saying it as you write – peep if you need to!

6. Check the word you have written matches the word on the card and say it again as you check.

7. Keep writing the word until you can write it without having to peep.

8. For words that are tricky and are not as easy to learn, take an imaginary picture of the word with your imaginary camera – imagine the word is big, coloured red, lit up by fireworks, has spiders crawling on it. Shut your eyes and try and picture the word. Try and write it down imagining the picture of the word you see in your head.

English

For English this week, we will be staying with Miss Browne at the Oak National Academy to explore and write some poetry.

If you have a magic wand grab it for the lessons!

Miss Browne has the /ir/ /ur/ /er/ alternative sounds (phonemes) as her sound of the week. This is helpful revision and spelling practice but depending upon your child’s phonic progress they may not know all of these sounds yet.

Please ensure that you keep following Rosie on the Read Write Inc phonics lessons on YouTube outlined above for your daily phonics learning.

There are one, two or three peak challenges each day. Remember to choose something which you feel you can do but will challenge you.

Monday

Today, we will be listening to a poem and then answering some questions. The video lesson can be found at

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-listen-to-a-poem. Make sure you tick or fix your work with Miss Browne.

 Tuesday

In the lesson today we will be identifying rhyming words. The video lesson can be found at https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-rhyming-words.

Make sure you tick or fix your work with Miss Browne.

Wednesday

Today, we will be learning about onomatopoeia so that we can include it in our poems that we write on Friday.  The video lesson can be found at

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-onomatopoeia.

We will start to plan our poem. The video lesson can be found at https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-plan-our-poem.

You will need your special adult helper to fold a blank piece of paper into 12 equal boxes.

Pause the video when asked to and draw your own poem plan. Choose your own rhyming words and onomatopoeia.

With your special adult helper, use your poem plan to practise saying your poem.

Use your home school sharing book, exercise book or notebook to record your work.

It would be great to see any work you are proud of on the Robin Class Blog on Purple Mash.

 Maths

We will continue to use White Rose Maths learning resources again this week. We will look at ordering numbers, recognising and counting money. Friday will be a fun maths day!

There is a video lesson presentation for each day focussing on the learning. There are separate activity and answer sheets on the school website for each day.

If you have access to a printer, then please print out the activity sheet. If you cannot print this document, ask an adult to help you create a frame &/or draw pictures like the activity sheet in your home school sharing book, exercise book or notebook. Adults can help you to use the separate answer sheets to ‘tick or fix’ your work.

There are one, two or three peak challenges. Remember to choose something which you feel you can do but will challenge you.

If your child finds these activities challenging, always spend time seeing the maths first by manipulating physical objects and then drawing pictures. This is more important than completing an activity sheet. Should you need any guidance email Mr Allard at robin@wicklewood.norfolk.sch.uk.

Monday

Watch the lesson video at https://vimeo.com/432401517 about ordering numbers up to 100. Then use the activity sheet from the school website to practise this skill.

There is a separate activity sheet for the three peak challenge.
