Wren Class wc 22nd June

Week Beginning: 22nd June 2020

Hello Wonderful Wrens,

I hope you all had a great week with Goldilocks and The Three Bears. We have enjoyed looking at your Tapestry photos and seen a lot of beautiful size and pattern work. Well done.

How did you all do in Sport’s Day? We enjoyed doing it at school in our Bubbles too!

Did you take part in the Virtual Big Sing? It was fun in school too! We love to sing to make us feel happy.

Hope you have a great week with Supertato and we can’t wait to see your character and story creations!

Take care and have fun.

Mrs Leaford and Mrs Nixon 😊

Phonics:

For the last few weeks of the year we are going to focus on some key activities for our daily phonics lessons. We believe that these activities will really help your child to prepare for the move to year 1 in September.

The daily Read, Write, Inc. lessons are still available to watch at the website below.

https://youtu.be/rze89HB9u8g

Look at the maths word problems worksheet (at the bottom of the page). Try to complete 1 question a day. Follow the steps below to solve the problem.

  1. Ask a grown up to read the word problem to you.
  2. Decide whether this is an addition or subtraction word problem
  3. Draw a circle around the numbers you will be adding or taking away
  4. Work out the answer. Decide whether to do it using the 1 peak, 2 peak or 3 peak method outlined below. (3 peak is the most challenging)

^ use objects to help you find the answer

^^ use a number line to help you find the answer

^^^ count on or back mentally

  1. If you want to extend your work you could write the number sentence for the word problem, i.e. 3+2=5, 5-2=3

Tuesday

  • Watch the Read, Write, Inc set 2 speed sound lesson on You Tube. – oo
  • Complete the ‘hold a sentence 1’ lesson with Rosie on the RWI You Tube page.

Design your own Supertato. You can either turn a real potato into Supertato or you can print the potato template at the bottom of the page to decorate.

Can you think of a good superhero name for your Supertato?

Wednesday

  • Watch the Read, Write, Inc set 2 speed sound lesson on You Tube. – oo
  • Complete the set 2 spelling lesson with Rosie.
  • Spend 5 minutes on Teach Your Monster to Read (details sent to Tapestry)

Look at the story plan sheet (at the bottom of the page).

Today you need to think about a new vegetable that needs saving. Draw a picture of your vegetable character in the box. Write their name or ask a grown up to write it for you.

You then need to think of a problem this vegetable needs help with. Why do they need Supertato to save them? Draw a picture and write why they need help?

Are they stuck to a chair? Are they stuck in mud? Are they tied up? We look forward to seeing your creative ideas.

Thursday

  • Watch the Read, Write, Inc set 2 speed sound lesson on You Tube. – ar
  • Complete the ‘hold a sentence 1’ lesson with Rosie on the RWI You Tube page.

Today you will need to think about how your Supertato is going to save your vegetable in trouble….. maybe he flies through the air and grabs them, maybe he sneaks out at night and rescues them when nobody is looking or he asks for other vegetables to help him.

Have fun drawing how the vegetable in trouble gets rescued. You could even add some speech bubbles if you would like to your drawing.

Friday

  • Watch the Read, Write, Inc set 2 speed sound lesson on You Tube. – or
  • Complete the set 2 spelling lesson with Rosie.
  • Spend 5 minutes on Teach Your Monster to Read (details sent to Tapestry)

Using your story plan which you have filled in, re-tell your story to an adult who can scribe your ideas for you.

Make sure you add lots of detail and exciting words to make your story sound the best it can.

You could add what the vegetables say to each other and all your ideas will be recorded by your adult.

You can also write your own sentences if you would like to but the main idea is to get your work written down as you tell the story! We would love to see your finished stories on Tapestry.
