Kestrel Class 15th June

Hello Kestrels!

One step closer to summer, even though the sun has abandoned us a little bit this past week. Keep posting on the Kestrel blog, as long as you post with kindness, I’m happy to approve posts for you to start discussions with your friends, it’s a lovely way for everyone to communicate. To access the blog, log into purple mash then click on the sharing iconthat is at the top (a green globe) then the shared blog taband then theKestrelblog.

Last week my bubble taught me how to do challenges on TTRockstars so I’ve responded to some of your challenges! I’ll play again at some point this week, some of you are definitely much faster than me though and I’m not sure I’ll ever be as fast as Mrs Smith who currently holds the teacher record in our school, under 2 seconds.

Daily Tasks

Magical Mayans!

If we were in school, we would have spent summer term studying the Mayans during theme. They are a fascinating people who lived long ago. I had the privilege of visiting Mayan ruins in Mexico and going to a place called ‘Xcaret’ that people often refer to as Mexican Disneyland. The whole resort is amazing and they have a huge show that they put on that teaches the audience all about the Mayans. I wish I could take us there for a field trip but as we’re social-distancing that won’t be possible, though I will make a note to petition Ms Brooks for a trip to Mexico next year.. I wonder what she will say. I digress. As we won’t be returning this school year, I found some resources on purple mash to let us do some studying of the Mayans at home. I will be setting 2dos for the next few weeks to do with the Mayans. For this week we will introduce the topic by reading the‘Maya Slideshow’. That will give us a starting point for our learning. Once you have read the slideshow, have a go at the ‘Maya quiz’. There is a lot of reading on the slideshow so you may want to spread it out and read a few slides each day and use this as your reading for the week. You know where your levels of challenge are and what will suit you the best.

Reading

The summer reading challenge has opened early this year and is online now.

Mrs Leaford will be sending out some information on this so keep an eye out if you haven’t already seen!

English and Maths

To give your child a set of fully planned and accessible tasks to do at home, we are recommending Hamilton Trust’s website and the White Rose Maths website (working alongside BBC Bitesize currently).

Don’t forget that I have put a set of links to other websites with options for Maths and English if you are finding these too challenging or not challenging enough or would just like

a change. However, please let me remind you that if your child is coming into school they need to be following the English and Maths from Hamilton and White Rose at home as this is what will be followed in school and they will otherwise be lacking skills/previous work from the sequences.
